Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that a tiny discoloration on my husband Tom’s toenail would spiral into something far more serious than just a cosmetic issue.

It all began with a white spot on Tom’s big toenail. He didn’t think much of it, believing it would disappear on its own. But as days turned into weeks, things took a turn for the worse.

When the skin on his feet became unbearably dry and itchy, I grabbed some topical lotion and urged Tom to apply it. We brushed it off as a minor inconvenience. But then his toenail started thickening, turning an alarming yellow, and causing him significant pain whenever he put on shoes.
